It's one of America's most interesting and beautiful cities. I've been there a few times. Fisherman's Wharf is one place to visit and there are numerous places to view the bay. Like any big American city, there are places you shouldn't go. Ask local residents about any part of the city you plan to go beforehand. Also, if it's summer, you should still have an extra light jacket. The wind from the bay can be cold. Mark Twain used to joke about the one summer in San Francisco in which he almost froze to death.
