I think it's a bad idea.  Only law-abiding people will obey gun control laws.  Criminals will not.  So when a criminal breaks into your house, or assaults you on the street, he will have a gun, and you won't.

Anyway , I am in support of this ban in my country.

In the period 2002-2012, there were 4804 American combat deaths. During this same period, over 270,000 Americans were killed with guns here at home. If you can't see the need for reform of gun laws, you are blind.

Neil - your argument applies to any law - " Only law-abiding people will obey laws. Criminals will not." - Does it mean that we don't need laws? I think that there are people that are not criminals by any mean, but nevertheless should be banned to posses guns - for example those who have some pschycological, behavioral, etc. problems. Moreover I think that only trained and approved by some regulations people, mainly officials should use (or posses guns).

@ walter_mellon : OMG in average 30000 each year. You'll find similar statistics about deaths in countries which lives a sever civil war. I think they should think more about gun control. I support forbiding all kind of weapons in my country.
