Berengaria has a valid concern. Language is uniquely sound. The written form is to record speech, and is arbitrary (more or less arbitrary depending on the language.)

In order to learn a spoken language one must hear it, and learn it as sound, so in this respect the person should a priori be a good aural learner and not pretend that it can be learned any other way. Yes, there are people who are more visual learners. The written word is only an aid to record, it shouldn't ideally be used as a tool to explain sound because many details of the sounds are not explicitly written. What the language requires precludes the person's preferred learning style, and the language requires to hear, the person should learn aurally. The written rules and phonetics should also be learned of course, but this is in conjunction of the person having a more complete knowledge of the sound. This is why we have phonetics, to write exactly all the sounds present in a language. So a person can learn the correct pronunciation by studying the corresponding phonetic system and transcribing into phonetic notation words from the normal written language.
