Why do certain German words start with capital letters in the middle of a sentence?

For example:

Meine Lieblingsbeschäftigung ist Reiten. Ich höre gerne Musik. Ich reise gerne und ich treffe mich gerne mit Freunden.

I don't understand why the words such as Lieblingsbeschäftigung and Reiten start with capital letters because these words in English don't start with capital letters. Please someone help me to understand this! :)

In English, only actual names of people and things have capital letters (Lotte, Monday, December, France, Tesco, Odeon, etc etc).

In German, though, all nouns have capital letters : girl, day, month, cinema etc. If you translate any of these ordinary words for things into German, they need capital letters. It's quite handy, actually, because it helps you find your way round the sentence, by showing you which words are the nouns.

Ah okay thanks! I was just confused because I have never seen those words written with capital letters in England ( I mean the translations) :)
