My relationship to the English language Since I first started learning English, I have enjoyed speaking with whoever allowed me to speak my mind. I have during the years developed a close relationship to English and it has helped me to learn new languages such as German and recently Spanish. English is a language that I use for literally hours every day in contradiction to German and Spanish, and I think that one of the main reasons for this is because of America’s huge influence on the digital world. This is one of many reasons why I chose English on A-level and of course because it interests me more than any other language out there. Last year we had the pleasure to have Peter as English teacher. I liked the way he we worked in his classes and we had several very interesting topics. One of the topics that I really enjoyed working with was “School shootings”. The reason for this is that I have presented on this topic in both of my 9th and 10th grade exams so I am know quite a lot about that specific topic. I had an old example laying of one of the Columbine killer’s diary laying on my computer and so, as an introduction to the topic I volunteered to give a small presentation called “Inside a killer’s mind” because I knew so much about that topic. Another topic that I remember enjoying is “growing up”, it was something that was very relatable for me and it was amusing to hear stories of teens growing up all around the globe. If I have to talk a little bit about group work in general in English I would say that I can be fun and enlightening to hear other people’s opinions and thoughts but I like to work alone too. I am aware that pronunciation and vocabulary exercise are best done in pairs or groups, but sometimes I prefer to work alone, especially projects where we have to gather information on our own. As for written English one task stands out to me as being a really good exercise. We had a whole lesson to write on a subject which we wanted to defend. We were allowed to research on the chosen topic a few days before from home, but that was pretty much it. Just one hour of free writing on a topic that interested us. English is a language that I use for literally hours every day in contradiction to German and Spanish. It is probably the most widely used language on this planet and that’s what I like about it. It is bringing us all closer together. I like how we Danes can sit and video chat or play games with someone with an entirely different background and culture.
