Red Hair Discrimination? Hello everyone. I've had a job interview today in one of the supermarkets in my town. I thought it was going really good, until the manager told me that my hair colour is against their policy. My hair is dyed in bright red. Yes it is bright, but not fluorescent or tomato red. The manager told me that I would have to change my hair colour in order to work at their company. What a joke! It's not like I'm coming to work with fluorescent green mohawk on my head, right? I don't understand how can my red hair insult the customers or even my fellow co-workers? I wonder what would the manager think if I showed her my tattoos... I'm really disappointed.

Hello everyone. I had a job interview today (no need to use a perfect tense here, since you say a specific time (today)) in one of the supermarkets in my town. I thought it was going really good, until the manager told me that my hair colour is against their policy. My hair is dyed in bright red. Yes, it is bright, but not fluorescent or tomato red. The manager told me that I would have to change my hair colour in order to work at their company. What a joke! It's not like I'm coming to work with a fluorescent green mohawk on my head, right? I don't understand how can my red hair can (better: would) insult the (don't need "the" here, but it's okay as is) customers or even my fellow co-workers? I wonder what the manager would think if I showed her my tattoos...

I'm really disappointed.

That is really weird for me to heard that red hair is a problem for the manager,I cannot really understand why red is not proper for that job :OOOOOOOO

Thank you Edward :) I will continue searching for a job regardless. This supermarket is just loosing a valuable employee by telling me to change my physical appearance ;) If it was a long term, well paid job, I would consider changing my hair colour... but it's only temporary - I don't see any good reasons to dye it black or brown just for the Christmas period, you know.

Thank you, I think it is big deal too. Because of a lot of weird thing behind it. I am happy I am handsome in their view. They want to use it but I still know the problem should be solved. There are some reason behind them too that may be assumption. breaking it that may be useful.
