Are there any difference in use words "propose" and suggest.

Hello everybody. Are Is there any difference in the use of the words "propose" and "suggest"?

"Propose" is more formal and stronger than "suggest".

"propose": "to put forward (an idea or plan) for consideration or discussion by others".

He proposed a peace plan.

"suggestion" : "to mention", "to offer"

He suggested that we should take a break.

Correct this entry?  Hardly, it's not that sort of entry.  "Propose" came into English from French and it's number one meaning is marriage, it means to put into place.  It has come to be pretty close to "suggest" these days.

"Suggest" came from Latin and means to carry and build up.  You are adding something on, to something else that was already there from before.
