This is a great notebook entry. The word "fish" and its plural form can be a little tricky. The plural of fish is usually still fish, unless you are speaking about multiple species of fish. (In biology, for instance, fishes is used to refer to multiple species of fish.) But in your notebook entry, "I caught about thirty fish." (or) "I caught over thirty fish." is what I would suggest.
