Separate Schools or Mixed Schools? Some people think that it is better to educate boys and girls in separate schools. Others, however, believe that boys and girls benefit more from attending mixed schools. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion. Answer: There has been much public debate about whether it is better to educate boys and girls in separate schools. In this essay, I will discuss two views about this issue. Some people think that boys and girls benefit more from attending single-sex schools. They argue that such students can concentrate on studies, rather than spending time on emotional issues such as puppy love, one-sided love and pains of getting dumped. As a result, these students seem to have more time to study, which helps them to gain a better academic performance. Also, research has shown that a percentage of girls can fall behind in studies at senior high school because of emotional problems. If they had studied at a girls' school, there would have been less influence from boys, and maybe they could have kept a better academic record. Others argue that it is better to educate boys and girls in mixed schools. They think that single-sex schools are old-fashioned and are the products of sexual stereotypes that boys are good at science and girls do well in arts. Actually, there are more and more male artists and female scientists. Also, men and women will end up in cooperating with each other after they leave school. So why not just let them study together when they are teenagers? In this way, they will get familiar with the studying habits and working ways of the opposite sex, which will help them to get along with one another. As for the emotional matters, pains or suffering from life are necessary for a person to grow up, and besides, puppy love can really be a beautiful memory for adults. Having considered the arguments on both sides of the debate, I believe that mixed schools are better for a modern society. However, there are still proper reasons for separate schools to exist.
