great opportunity to find more (*here I would use the word "new" instead, but it's not a mistake at all) friends and people to talk with about anything :).

В принципе всё правильно, я только поправила, чтобы звучало естественнее!

Не очень понятно, правда, что вы имеете в виду под I thought it was abandoned. Abandoned в основном говорят про вебсайты примерно так из 90х, за которыми никто не следит уже десятилетиями :) Я слышала dead про форумы, на которых нет народу, но это явно просторечное... Можно спросить носителей языка, конечно.
