About RDSS (Research and Development Substitute Service) RDSS is a kind of Substitute Service in Taiwan. You can fulfill your mandatory military service by working for some tech enterprises in Taiwan. Of course there are some pros and cons for this system. Let me list some of them in my opinion. Pros 1.You don't need to be drafted into the army. (In Taiwan, it's a year period for male in general. If you've got Military Training Education in High school and university, it could be shortened to 11 months period.) 2.You can accumulate your work experience earlier than others. Cons 1.You are forced to be in the same company for 3 years, no matter you like it or not. 2.The company choices are limited. That means only Taiwan local and tech companies are available. It doesn't include Foreign companies and conventional industries. However, there are still a number of applicants willing to take the RDSS in Taiwan. If you can't endure the company you choosing, you can just get back into the army for months (according to the portion of your RDSS period).
