Two phrases (clauses) are separated by a comma (,). The clause before the comma cannot stand alone and the clause after the comma also cannot stand alone. You need both clauses to make a complete sentence. One clause (usually the second side of the sentence) is dependent on the other, the first side. You are comparing two things: lazy becomes more lazy (lazier). Why? Because you have more gadgets. Good becomes better. Why? Because you practice more (practice again and again). The comparative endings (suffixes) -er or -ier show "more" of something. Comparatives are usually adjectives but sometimes adverbs. The form is: "The" + "comparative" + "subject" + "verb" (comma,) "the" + "more" + "subject" + "verb." So, "The colder it is, the more you wear."

Hi George, number 2 is correct, number 3 is 'the later you are, the angrier he'll be,' number 4 is correct, number 5 is 'the colder it gets, the more clothes you have to wear,' and number 6 is correct.

So what's the rule?
If I folllow the first one I would say:
2.The more gadgets you own, the lazier you become.
3. The latier you are, the angrier you become
4. The more I practise my English, the better I'll speak
5. The more cold/coldier it gets, the more clothes you have to wear
6. THe more exercise you do, the fitter you'll get
