Aspettando fuori del ristorante, con traduzione all'inglese
Ieri sera sono andato a un ristorante chic con i miei genitori. Indossavo un vestito rosa con le zeppe. Mi sentivo bella, più che altro perché ero la persona più giovane lì. Tutte le donne avevano i capelli canuti, o la plastica facciale, o entrambi. Io invece sono alla veneranda età di 19. Quando la cena è finita, eravamo fuori per recuperare la macchina del parcheggiatore. All’improvviso, sentii una voce proprio dietro di me.
“Pardon, excusez-moi”, disse. Mi sono drizzate le orecchie. Sto imparando il francese, e ogni volta che sento o vedo qualcosa in francese, sento come se l’universo intero sia cospirato per darmi un’opportunità per migliorare le mie conoscenze linguistiche. Il monsieur francese mi aveva toccata la spalla per venirme davanti e fare una pausa sigaretta. Aveva pressappoco quarant’anni. Tirò fuori una sigaretta e iniziò a parlare con uno dei parcheggiatori. Diceva qualcosa sulle Alpi svizzere (in inglese, naturalmente), ma non posso ricordare cosa, perché avevo le stelle nei miei occhi. Non perché mi ero innamorata del quarantenne, ma perché speravo con tutta la mia anima che parli francese ancora, così potrei imparare nuovo vocabolari durante l'attesa.

Last night I went to a swanky restaurant with my parents. I was wearing a pink dress with wedges. I felt pretty, mostly because I was the only young person there. All the women either had white hair, plastic surgery, or both. I, on the other hand, am at the ripe age of 19. When dinner was over, we waited outside to get the car from the valet. Just before the car pulled up, I heard a voice right behind me.
"Pardon, excusez-moi," the voice said. My ears perked up. I'm learning French, and every time I hear or seeing something in French, I feel like the universe has conspired to give me an opportunity to improve my language skills. The French monsieur had touched me on the shoulder to get in front of me and have a smoke. He was about in his forties. He got a cigarette out and began to talk to the valet. He was saying something about the French alps (in English, of course), but I can't remember what it was, because I had stars in my eyes. Not because I had fallen in love with the forty-something, but because I was hoping with all my soul that he would speak French again, so that I could learn some new vocabulary during the wait.

EXAMPLES:
-Se continua/continuerà (Presente/Futuro Indicativo)a parlare, imparerò(Futuro Indicativo) nuovi vocaboli. (If he keeps talking, I'll learn new vocabulary)
-Se continuasse (Congiuntivo Imperfetto) a parlare, imparerei(Condizionale Presente) nuovi vocaboli. (If he kept talking, I would learn new vocabulary)
-Se avesse continuato (Congiuntivo Trapassato),a parlare, avrei potuto imparare (Condizionale Passato) nuovi vocaboli. (If he had kept talking, I would have learnt new vocabulary).
I know it looks hard as hell, but it's nothing but a mechanism to acquire :) practise helps a lot.
About the verbs I put in green: as you could see, I didn't change them, even if you used the "Passato Remoto". There, it works because you're describing something that's happened in a very exact moment.
About "cospirare": in Italian that verb has got a mainly negative connotation (to conspire AGAINST somebody), so I wouldn't use it there.

NB: Be careful: When writing a text (especially when telling a story), choose a tense between "Passato Prossimo" (ho sentito) and "Passato Remoto" (sentii) and stick to it. In this case, you could either say:
"Finita la cena, uscimmo (...). All'improvviso sentii una voce" or "Finita la cena, siamo usciti(...). All'improvviso, ho sentito una voce"

N.B. In the last sentence, you're talking about how you felt and what you hoped for, so it's in the past. Mind the difference between:
-Spero (Presente Indicativo) che parli (Congiuntivo Presente) ancora francese, così potrò (Futuro) imparare nuovi vocaboli. (I hope he speaks/he's going to speak French again, so that I can learn new vocabulary).
- Speravo (Imperfetto Indicativo) che parlasse (Congiuntivo Imperfetto)ancora francese, così avrei potuto (Condizionale Passato)imparare nuovi vocaboli. (I hoped/ I was hoping he would speak French again, so that I could learn some new vocabulary).
I'll give you some examples which I hope will make the "Condizionale Passato" thing a bit clearer (in the next comment).
