I’m studying the preposition CLOSE TO and I wrote two sentences using it. Does it sounds natural? 1: We are *close to* midnight. 2: The sales at the end of semester will have increased by *close to* 10%. Even before we launch our new website.

Hi! I think your second sentence is fine but for the first one it may be better to say “It is getting close to midnight” since the time is getting close rather than you all physically coming closer to midnight

I agree with Isabela. It is getting / It is close to midnight is the natural way to say it. Your variant sounds a literal poetic or literary, though, so could be heard in certain contexts

The first isn’t natural. More common would be things like It is almost midnight. It is nearly midnight. When it gets close to midnight, call your sister.
