Something goes really funny here. What's so nervous about it just letting a machine scan you? Who'd have a beer before an X-ray or something? Isn't it that this guy got some bad result out of the exam (he thanks the doctor, explaining something like "oh, it's not that bad, I thought it could be worse"), even so he's sure in a bad mood and so of course goes to alcohol?
