It's true that the typical American diet is really unhealthy. I've spent a fair amount of time trying to learn to eat more like a European.

Americans generally eat 3 meals a day: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner/Supper. The last meal of the day is usually the biggest meal, where the family traditionally sits down at the table together to eat. (With many different activities or schedules this is more rare in modern times). Americans eat a lot of chicken. They also eat turkey. Duck is not real popular, although it is eaten. Beef is common and is eaten in these forms: ground beef, beef steak, roast beef, brisket and stew meat. Lamb is eaten at times, but this is not real popular. Pork is a popular meat. It is eaten ground into sausage, or ham baked in the oven, sliced for sandwiches, pulled pork, pork ribs, and other methods of cooking. Most Americans have one of these forms of meat with their main meal of the day. They also cook something white, like potatoes, pasta, or rice. They also include a vegetable, either cooked or raw. With their meal, they include something to drink, such as cold tea, water, soda, juice or milk.

The eating habits of American vary from region to region, depending partly on the ethnicity of the people who settled the region and also on what is available in the region. In southern Louisiana the people usually eat rice with their meals and like spicy food. Since we are near the Gulf of Mexico, we eat a lot of seafood.

Unfortunately, a lot of Americans don't eat very healthy at home. Often, because both members of a family (the husband and wife) work, many American's eat convince food. This isn't always fast food, it also includes a variety of food that is quick and easy to prepare. Such as: microwavable meals, frozen foods, food items from a box or can, or pre-prepared grocery store items. However, please keep in mind that everyone is not like this. Many people cook very healthy meals. These typically include some kind of meat, vegetable and grain (bread or rice). As for myself, I usually eat organic and healthy food. I eat a lot of various vegetables (especially a lot of dark green vegetables) and fruit. Nuts and lean meats (such as chicken or fish) are also a big part of my diet. However, my diet is seen as very atypical in America. :]
