A smart alec(k) can mean one of two thing: One who thinks he knows everything and likes to respond with an air of superiority. or One who likes to make fun by responding sarcastically.

A smart alec/aleck is someone whose sarcastic, wisecracking, or humorous manner is delivered in an offensive or obnoxious way.
