A "gutter ball" is when the bowling ball rolls off of the main strip and into the side gutters without hitting any pins. A spare is when you do not knock down all of the pins with the first roll of the ball. You may only knock down 1. On the second roll of the ball you knock down all of the remaining pins giving yourself a spare or half-strike.

-> When it's your turn in any bowling game you get to go twice, unless you get a strike, which is when you hit all the pins. -> A spare is when you go once, and don;t hit all the pins, then the second chance you have, you hit all the pins down. -.A gutter is when you throw the bowling ball down the side (in the gutter), which is not on the actual lane.
