Given? I don't know if "date" ever means "given." But yes, "date" has many meanings. 1) The date today is January 30. (time; noun) 2) She has a date with her boyfriend tonight. (meeting; noun) 3) The scientists will date the rocks to estimate the how old the rocks are. (discover an object's age; verb) 4) The boy and girl are dating. (having a romantic relationship; verb) 5) She loves to eat dates. (a kind of fruit; noun)

I think you've confused some words here. ''Data'' is the plural of ''datum'', as in information. ''Date'' (ie. dah-tay) is the Italian word which means ''(you) give''. Brian has given you the English meanings of the word.
