That's true, but only a part. We use a lot of times "estás" without other verb, just like "you are" and not like "you are +ING". Tú estás en Barcelona = you are in Barcelona. Tú estás contento = you are happy. Tú estás borracho = you are drunk. The difference in meaning usually is that while "eres" is something permanent, essential, "estás" is something temporal. For example, if you say "(tú) estás guapa" you mean something like you looks pretty (now, something temporal) but "(tú) eres guapa" means that you are always pretty, because your face is pretty, not because your clothes or your haircut or something like that. Example: El cuaderno es rojo, this sentence is like the book is red. "Estar" is related with the position of the object, something like this, El cuaderno está en la mesa, this sentence is like the book is on the table.
