I know he is slow ____ understanding, but you have to be patient with him. A. on B. at C. to D. from Note: I have heard “slow to respond”, but I am not sure if people would normally say “slow to understanding.” Shouldn’t it be “slow to understand” instead?

Slow to understand sounds just fine. Maybe "slow to understand things", or instead of "things", use something more specific.
