Para = (In order to) achieve something Lo hago para forrarme = I do that in order to become rich Lo hace para aprender = He does that in order to learn ¿Para qué lo hizo? = Why (In order to what?) he did that? Por = Because of / Do something for someone Lo hago por ti = I do that for you (so you don't have to do that) Lo hace por hacerlo = He does that "because" he wants to. Eso paso por tu culpa = That happenend because of you (your fault) Por also means through. Saltó por la ventana = He jumped through the window Le salió sangre por el ojo = Blood came out of his eye (the blood passed through his eye) Hay un hombre desnudo cruzando por la calle = There is a naked man passing through (crossing) the street Esas son algunas de las diferencias que hay entre "Por" y "para", espero que te sirvan.

It is quite difficult to explain but the main rules are: Para : when it indicates "direction" : Voy para Madrid - I go to Madrid Este libro es para ti - This book is for you. and when it indicates "purpose" or "aim" : Esto es bueno para tu salud - This is good for your health. Por : When it means "by" : Por avión - By plane When it means "because of" : Por sus ideas - Because of his ideas. When it means "per" Por hora/mes - Per hour/month These are just some tricks to learn the main differences between "por" and "para".
