I don't understand one sentence in a story, can you tell me its meaning~~
I am reading Allen Poe's Black Cat and here is one sentence I don't understand , the sentence is set in the context that I hurt the black cat which loved me so much and now the cat began to avoid my appearance "I had so much of my old heart left, as to be at first grieved by this evident dislike on the part of a creature which had once so loved me. " what's the meaning of "I had so much of my old heart left" ?

This is similar to saying "my feelings were the same". That is, other things may have changed, but his feelings have changed little. In fact, you could replace "heart" with "feelings" and get the same meaning.
