How do you say "For how long" in latin? I've been trying to practice my latin online for a little while now, but the problem i keep running into is trying to ask people how long they've been studying latin. I can ask specific quantities of time, but I don't know how to ask an indefinite question. "for how many years have you been studying latin" would be: quot annos linguam latinam discebas? what is "For how long have you been studying latin?"

quamdiu is "how long" in Latin. The accent is on the quam syllable. The "u" is long.

To indicate the the person is still studying you must use the present otherwise the meaning becomes "how long did you study": Quamdiu linguam latinam discis ? - how long have you been studying latin? Quamdium linguam latinam discebas? - how long had you been studying latin (when something else happened) Answer: Linguam latinam iam tres annos disco. / Iam tres anni sunt/triennium est cum linguam latinam disco.
