Hi David, 'from attending' would be correct for this sentence; although it may be better to state that Prof Brown 'had excused him from attending'. Best wishes, Linda

选A excuse sb (from sth/from doing sth): to allow sb to not do sth that they should normally do 教授允许他没来上课。
