What is "quality" in the sentence "the jacket you bought is very good quality"?
The jacket you bought is very good quality.
This sentence is from a grammar book. I don't know how "quality" works in this sentence. Firstly, I don't think it is a noun because if it is, "of" is needed before "quality". Secondly, dictionaries say that "quality" as an adjective is used only before a noun, so basically you can't say "something is quality" like "something is red". So, I wondering if "quality" is an adjective and something coming after it might be omitted. What is "quality" in this sentence?

This is a very good question. Quality is a noun. 'Of' may be inserted just before 'very' (...of very good quality.), but it is often omitted. I'm not sure why, and I'm not sure whether it is less formal to omit it.

It has good quality means it has been made well and will last long. It has 2 meanings but in this context I think it can be used as an adjective.

"Quality" can be used as a noun or adjective. "That is a high quality jacket." is a commonly used sentence. You are right that when used without adjective before it needs of, as in" the jacket is of high quality" but when used with an adjective "the jacket you bought is premium quality" the "of" is usually omitted.
Anyway, "that is a quality jacket" is more natural than the sentence from the book.
