「悪い」の 発音は何ですか? Context- A person offers another person to stay at their place for the night, and this other person responds to the offer by saying 悪いですよ!, contextually meaning to be something like "oh no, that's too much to offer me" or "I really shouldn't" etc. My dictionary thing gives me three different pronunciations and they have some slight differences in their definitions, but nothing that really matches this context, so I'm unsure.

I guess "悪いですよ(wa-ru-i-de-su-yo)" is meaning "申し訳ないですよ(mo-u-shi-wa-ke-na-i-de-su-yo)". This is spoken language. You can use in this situation. You think you have to decline someone's suggestion.(Because you will probably cause someone trouble). This wards include grateful feelings.

Okay cool, thanks for the help. First time I've seen わるい used as that kind of response so I wasn't quite sure.

Well, you can also pronounce it as にくい, but when we say にくい, we usually write 憎い. I've never heard that 悪い is pronounced as かたい :) I believe we just pronounce 悪い as わるい for everyday use :)

My dictionary shows me that 悪い can also be read as にくい and かたい, unless these are just different things?
