People tend to use 'used to' extremely often, it suggests that someone did something before, habitually/quite regularly, however they do not do this activity anymore. e.g. I used to wake up at 5 every morning....however I don't anymore I used to be a vegetarian...... I eat meat now Hope I could help :)

Like the person before me said, we use it very..very often! This is the most common way to refer to past habits, for sure.
