Is Genki the best textbook for beginners?
I noticed that almost all beginners use Genki so I think I want to use it. Though it's expensive so I just want to check to see if its the best to use before I get it.

To learn the syllables I would recommend "Let's learn Hiragana/Katakana/Kanji" by Yasuko Mitamura. It's very helpful as it provides you with examples and activities at the back of the book to do as practice. Also it's not expensive!

I can't say if it the best text book out there period, but I started using Genki a little while ago and I've found it really useful. Before you buy it I highly recommend learning hiragana and katakana first so when you get the book you can jump right in. Hope this helps.

You dont have to buy the book. Download all the series both 1 and 2 instead.

I use Minna no Nihongo is a little bit difficult to use..... I think so.
