What does "a thing not small of its kind" mean?
Hi,
The following phrase is part of the definition from a dictionary about beauty and its synonyms:
"Pretty applies to that which has symmetry and delicacy, a diminutive beauty, without the higher qualities of gracefulness, dignity, feeling, purpose, etc. A thing not small of its kind may be called pretty if it is of little dignity or consequence: as, a pretty dress or shade of color;"
What does the part "a thing not small of its kind" mean in this context? Does it refer to physical size?
Thanks a lot.

'A dictionary' here means 'a 200 year-old dictionary'. That is archaic language. I suggest you don't use that as a normal dictionary.
I don't know or use English that is that old, so I would only be guessing as to its meaning!
