"look on the bright side" is usually used to cheer someone up who is already feeling bad about something. The opposite would normally be "on the downside," or "the down side is..." and is used for contrast. "We won the lottery! We're rich! On the down side, my family won't stop asking me for money, and I owe a lot of money for taxes!"
