"Would" is usually for something hypothetical, a lot of the time used with "if." "If I were rich, I would buy another car." Or, "What would you do if that happened?"
"Will" is the word we use for future. "I will go to my friend's house tomorrow."
This is a little more complicated, but you can also use "would" for past future, as in, if you are telling a story in the past and want to talk about something that has not happened yet in the story. As in, "I knew he would write me a letter."

Would is an auxiliary verb - a modal auxiliary verb. In English, we use would mainly to:
- talk about the past
- talk about the future in the past
-express the conditional mood.
Would is used as a kind of past tense for "will" or "going to" The basic structure is subject+auxiliary verb (would)+main verb. Examples: "I would like tea" (positive statement). "She would not go" (negative statement). "Would you help?" (question). I would not use "would" as an assertive verb indicating future tense.

"will" is used for future tense sentences not "would" "would" is used as like a possiblity. "If I had four legs, I would be fast than a cheeta."

It does refer to the future, yes.
eg: I would get you that Ferrari if I had enough money!
eg: I would love you forever if you were to cut down all that ivy for me!
