Testo di una canzone: Controvento - What does this song mean in English?
I'm trying to translate Controvento by Arisa. I found several different translations. Is what I did correct? Is this what the song means in English?
Lo so me lo ricordo bene
I don't believe in miracles
You better free yourself (this was the most confusing! I also thought "its better that you're free?")
You better look inside (or "its better to look inside?")
This life leaves bruises
It gives you chills
Sometimes its more like a fight
There's that emptiness you don't know
Then you never say
That burns in the veins as if
The world is against you
And you don't know why
I know, I remember it well
Grazie per l'aiuto!!

Hi Tina,
well done with your translation! I am speaking from the point of view of a native, as I am not an Italian teacher. However, I think your translation is very accurate. I would keep "you better free yourself" because "meglio che ti liberi" is an advice just like "meglio che ti guardi dentro". So, again, "you better look inside" is the most appropriate translation, in my opinion, if one wants to stick to the nuance of the original lyrics.
Best wishes,
elisa

Forcing the translation, maybe is:
"Meglio che ti liberi" = "it's better that you free yourself"
"Meglio che ti guardi dentro" = "it's better that you look inside yourself".

I know some song lyrics can be artsy, so thanks! I just wanted to get as close as possible since I'm trying to learn how to understand what I'm listening to. :) Grazie mille!

(it's) Better (for you) to free yourself (ti), (it's) better to look inside (dentro) yourself (ti), there's that emptiness that (che) you don't know (can either mean that you don't know about, or the you don't know what to do with), that then you never say (means either talking to other people about the emptiness, or about how it feels like it's burning)
To be honest it's hard for a native speaker too to understand artsy lyrics, every now and then shows satire shows interview signers about the meaning, getting blank stares from them.
