If you can afford it, I would recommend using a teacher, such as myself. Why do I say this? Let's say you do free chat with an English "learning partner" or a friend for 60 minutes. After he leaves, I ask you, "What did you learn?" Your answer will probably be, "Um, er, well, I don't know. I don't think I learned anything." Why is this? First, he is not a teacher and cannot teach you well. He doesn't know what to listen for, he won't write anything down for you, and he probably won't correct many of your mistakes. Thus, you will learn very little. How is a teacher different? First, I would ask you what your goal is: (a) learning vocabulary, (b) learning idioms, (c) learning phrasal verbs, (d) becoming more fluent in speaking, (e) improving your grammar knowledge, (f) learning vocabulary words specific to your work environment, or (g) improving your listening skills. Second, I would come to each class with a list of perhaps 10 words, idioms, or phrasal verbs (or ask you to bring such a list), and we would practice this list for 60 minutes. At the end of 60 minutes, I would summarize our class and give you written notes on what we did. You will know EXACTLY what you learned and what you need to practice before next class. During the NEXT class, we would review what you learned last class, and I would give you a new list of words to work on. Each class you WILL learn new English words to pronounce and use in sentences, and each week you will learn MORE. In 3 months, you will have learned a TREMENDOUS amount of English and improved greatly. Third, I would also allow you, as a regular student of mine, to email me questions about English grammar anytime. At your request, I could also correct your writing, make audio recordings for you to listen to, or give you homework exercises to practice what you learned before the next class. Do you see the difference in chatting with a friend and learning English with a teacher? One will work and one will not.

To improving, I listen to a lot of English moovies. Don't worry if you don't understand anything. At the beginning is normal. With the time you'll see that your pronunciation will improve and you'll understand more.Don't give up!!!
