Can you tell me why the poet labelled his poem "a fragment" between the title and the 1st line?
I'm talking about "The eagle" by L. Alfred Tennyson
Here it is if you wanna read it
'The Eagle'
(A fragment)
He clasps the crag with crooked hands;
Close to the sun in lonely lands,
Ringed with the azure world, he stands.
The wrinkled sea beneath him crawls;
He watches from his mountain walls,
And like a thunderbolt he falls.

(A fragment) > The poem below is just a fragment ( a part of the whole poem) of the poem "The Eagle'".
Fragment > a small part broken or separated off something.

This has been debated by scholars and there is no clear answer.
Perhaps the eagle is part of the mountain.
