What's the difference between these words: Perhaps and Maybe?

Hi Aninha,
They have the same meaning, but perhaps is more formal than maybe. Moreover, maybe is used mostly in front or end position whereas perhaps is used in front, mid and end position.
For example:
As you perhaps remember, I worked as an interpreter for three years in the European Parliament. NOT As you maybe remember ... .

Perhaps and maybe can be used in the same way. However, there is a slight semantic and informal difference. Maybe is used informally, and it is derived from ‘it may be.’ It is used more as a definite (or as definite as maybe can be). The word perhaps is more formal and is used to express uncertainty about an outcome or undertaking, and is more often used in response to a possibility. I hope this helps!
