I'm not a native speaker, but I found this very curious when I started learning Spanish, so I researched this a bit, and as far as I can say, there's not only not a single proper way to pronounce it, but native speakers will not even give you a single explanation. The pronunciation has evolved over time, and from what I can tell, now the pronuncation varies per country, region and even person (as in, I know people who pronounce "ll" distinctly differently in e.g. "amarillo" than in "calle"). Check e.g. these videos or google for "yeísmo" (the name for pronouncing "ll" and "y" the same way, although historically they are supposed to be two different sounds). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtsLhOevHH0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zP84KDECeu0 If you ask because you want to know how to pronounce it properly, then I'd say just pick one way, whichever you like the most for whoever reason, and simply use that one. As long as it's one of the possible ones, I don't think native speakers will care more about yours than they do about that one of themselves.

Hi Zizi, Being honest with you if you go to Spain there is any diference between these sounds in Spanish spoken in Spain, but if you travel to South America countries there this sound is a bit different lets see that it is more sweet there. But in Spain you can´t hear the difference between lleno (full) and yegua (female horse). It is similar with B and V in Spain both letters sound identical so for this reason is imposible know which letter use in a word ir you just listen it and you need to memorise them.

"ll" as in "llamar", "llama" or "pollo" is pronounced with "j", as in jewel, but the spanish word "yoyo" or "yeso" are pronounced in the same way. Nevertheless, argentinean people say "llamar" ( to call) with a "sh" sound. Example, they say "sho the shamo" ( This is not the exact pronunciation). Look for spanish phonetic sounds
