"upcoming" is used for events, not for professions This would sound normal: "I'm training/studying to be a doctor" Once you have graduated, you could say: "I'm a newly-qualified doctor." In your first post, you could say: "I'm a junior doctor" (at least, this is the UK term).

You can also say " I am a soon-to-be doctor"

It is possible that you might have confused the phrase "I am an upcoming doctor," with another very similar phrase. As Michael said, we do not use the word "upcoming," with a profession. However, we do use the phrase " up and coming," with professions. This has a different meaning - it usually means that somebody is considered to be very promising in their field. For example, David Beckham was once "an up and coming young footballer."
