「眠りすぎる」と「眠るすぎる」の違いは何ですか? I often times use google translate, after I've finished making a sentence in Japanese, to see if I managed to convey the message with the correct feeling. I wanted to say 'I sleep too much' so naturally used 「眠りすぎる」 but it translated to 'I'm too sleepy', which, whilst it's true ahaha, wasn't what I wanted. Despite this「眠るすぎる」seemed to translate into 'I sleep too much'. Is this just google translate being unreliable again, or does keeping the main verb in dictionary form, actually change the meaning? If so why? おおきに~

Google translate is a good tool to get rough answers. I use it under native speakers. To sleep means ねむる(眠る) or ねる(寝る). If you want to say "I sleep too much" : "眠りすぎる" is correct. And you can also say "寝すぎる". "眠るすぎる" fails to conjugate the verb 眠る to the right form. Sleepy means ねむい(眠い) or ねむたい(眠たい). If you want to say "I'm too sleepy" : You can say "眠すぎる" or "眠たすぎる".
