Start learning Arabic So I've decided to start learning Arabic since I've decided to teach English in Saudi Arabia in two years. I expect to teach in Saudi Arabia for between 2-4 years and will have plenty of time to become conversational if I start the learning process now. I will at some point have the opportunity to also take courses at my college, but I'll only be taking 1 year of classes unless I specifically choose to overload myself. My question is... do you have any advice? I'm frightened to start learning the Arabic writing system because I've heard it's complex. I'm also considering overloading my coursework in order to take a full two years of it at my college. That's how long my program is. I could potentially even get 3 years in if I take summer courses. What do you suggest? Thanks

It’s natural ro be afraid of learning the Arabic writing system, but keep in mind that it’s not a very complex one compared to, say, the Japanese. It’s just a different one. It’s an Abjad system. Pros: - You have 28 letters. Each letter has one and only one sound. No combinations or funny business like say English. - All words are basically derivations of simple roots. If you know the root for (write) then you know the words for writing, a writer, a book, a place to write in, a thing that’s written, etc. - Difficulties: - vowels are implicit. Unless in special texts where they are indicated by marks on top of the letters, but this will be easier with time. Cn yu rd ths? - letters are connected when written so a letter might look slightly different depending on its position in the word. - spoken Arabic and written Arabic are vastly different. But you should learn both! My suggestion is to not let the different writing system scare you. You can learn a conversational Arabic quite easily, as for classical written Arabic, take your time with it.

You can just study how to read Arabic but you can speak and make conversations. without reading everything in Arabic . I have many students and they do not need to read Arabic but they want to speak and I dealt with them we have colloquial book for Egyptian colloquial for example and I teach them everything in English letters and no problem . Here in Egypt you can make simple dialog and deal with people with 500 words and 100 verbs . and Egyptian dialog all Arab countries understand it . do not hesitate write to me and I can help you .

You can lean it in an easy way without grammar or deep complicated words, for example you can listen to words or sentences and write them with English letters many Arabs understand that. Good luck sister
