Despite his illness, he went to work. (after "in spite of" and "despite" we can't write the whole sentense) He took money from his father's wallet. At last, we've found the place (because it's some definite place) we all like. The game continued in spite of a heavy rain. (we put mostly an indefinite article before the adjectives). We did it despite many hardships.
