what is the difference between whole and entire?

that's a really good question. As far as I am concerned there is no difference. I could say that I could the whole meal or I could say that I cooked the entire meal. They mean the same thing.

No difference they both mean complete and undamaged from two separate languages.Whole is from German roots. and Entire is from Latin roots. The latin root word also has a meaning related to "integer". That we use in mathematics, computer programming and other academic topics. which is why there is an occasional difference in the choice of words between "whole" and "entire" for some circumstances and sentences. Whole like Vitaliya say is more common in daily speech. We get some common expressions from the German "Whole" "whole number" "whole meal" etc. you might hear "entire meal" but never "entire milk" We buy "whole milk" in the shops.

"Whole" is used more often in spoken languale but they are interchangable, just like "completely"and "entirely"
