among my son's first words even before he was 1 year-old was "Big!" - i just adore this BBC's cartoon (Muzzy in Gondoland and Muzzy comes back)
But the most important thing is not to MAKE a child to learn. Every child has own key: some children adore singing, some need more serious motivation. Inborn leaders will be pleased with the idea that they may know much more than the others. But almost every child wants to feel that you are interested in the "game" as well.
And it's easy to gain a child's interest. Just ask for help. Believe me, when you're really proud of child-that's the best way to learn more and much easier. And that's a great adventure, when child feels that only several people can understand your "secret" language
Good luck
