"will" or "would" - Which is correct in the following context? Hi friends, "will" or "would" - Which is correct in the following context? How would you say it as a native speaker? 1) Will you be free on Tuesday to take a class? 2) Would you be free on Tuesday to take a class? Thanks in advance! Niwantha

I would say "will you be free " But others would say "would you be free" Would in normal use = past of will so it may seem strange. "will you be free" = are you free. "would is used when there is a hope or expectation" https://www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/english/would "would you be free" = is said when you are kind of hoping/expecting or possibly a little bit begging for them to be free.

Both are fine depending on context. Choice 2 uses the conditional would for politeness. Here is more information: https://englishlive.ef.com/blog/language-lab/use-should-would-could/

Both are perfect, I use them both equally, not sure if there is a reason to use one and not the other, its just a matter of style really. Would you be free is a little more, passive sounding, like not as forward as will you , but honestly both are perfect any time..

Will is what is used in most every day conversation.
