Hi Niwantha,
"Co-ordination" is a process of bringing relevant parties together, planning and delegating tasks in a synergistic manner, and executing the plan as seamlessly as possible. A co-ordination is complex as it likely involves an execution of tasks in a pre-planned sequence, and in the event of any unforeseen circumstance, a new plan may be adopted on the spot. As such, a co-ordination is dynamic and requires flexibility, resourcefulness and ingenuity on the part of the coordinators.
A co-ordination will flop unless all parties "co-operate" with each other in a team. Everybody adopts a helpful attitude towards everyone else because it's all for a common goal. When tasks are delegated, everyone willingly extends their help without any reservation. In essence, a "co-operation" is a process of enabling one another in solving a joint problem or reaching a common goal. By "co-operating", the barrier to achieving something is lowered and the final outcome is shared by all.
A co-ordination tends to occur among larger groups of people due to the complexity and specificity of the objectives. On the other hand, a co-operation can exist between just two office staff. However, "co-operation" is definitely needed for a "co-ordination". As an analogy, a dialogue (co-operation) can exist between a minimum of two people who are trying to talk about the same thing. However, dialogues are definitely needed for a seminar (co-ordination).
In a nutshell:
Co-operation: Assisting one another to achieve something.
Co-ordination: Bringing different parties together to work in complementary ways for a specific objective.
I hope this helps.
