You will quickly learn that English place names are spelt the same as ordinary current (modern) words, but are pronounced the same as Old English from where they came. A good example is "Derby" in England pronounced "Darby" It will be a good exercise. However it might open up a debate between American and British speakers over The English "Shires" The Brits say "Sheer" the Americans Say "shyer" or something similar. Same for "leiCESTER" etc. There is A British way of saying the ending "CESTER" and the American way.
