Where do I start with Spanish because there are different dialects? There are so many different dialects in Spanish and I have heard that they all sound different. I want to attempt to learn Spanish but the different dialects are somewhat off-putting. I'm worried that once I begin learning, that I will get confused with the different material if they are being taught in different dialects.

No worries, you need to focus to learn neutral Spanish, so far you're just starting, once you master basic-medium Spanish then you can immerse yourself in some dialects .. the accent refers to how people pronounce words, whereas a dialect is all-encompassing. A dialect includes the pronunciations, grammar and vocabulary that people use within a group, it also depend on formal or informal context and can be used in all Spanish speaking countries. My best recommendation is for you to listen to some audio pronunciation in Spanish from tv presenters (journalist, reporters) because they speak a neutral Spanish no matter the country they are in. Of course that you will notice some differences between some countries but personally is not a big deal. Some of the most important news network in spanish (Univision, Telemundo, Televisa, CNN en español, Caracol Televisión, TV Azteca, TVE , etc etc) you can find them on youtube and also some TV series on netflix too.

So if somebody wants to learn English, for instance, are they going to be worried about what dialect they might fall into or that they may be confusing with other so called dialects. Aren’t you confusing dialects to accents ? Just like every other country and language on the planet, people sound different all over within the same language, Their accents can be different just like in England. That shouldn’t stop you taking up Spanish. In my opinion, stick with a tutor who will teach you the official proper language and not worry about the quirks of any language and dialects, which would not be helpful to you. By the way, I’m learning Spanish and I carefully chose a prof teacher who knows how to teach the language and she lives in Buenos Aries. Good luck

I think what you are implicitly asking is - which dialect is most neutral and easiest to learn for beginners? I am slightly biased, but I would recommend you to learn a dialect from the mountain areas of Latin America, such as Bogotá, Bucaramanga, Quito, or Lima. Their accents are very clear, they pronounce every syllable, and other speakers of Spanish understand them clearly. Even accents from central Mexico, like those from Mexico City or Guadalajara are very clear as well

It really depends on why you want to learn Spanish. For example, if you want to study abroad in Madrid, then you should learn the Spain dialect. Or, if you want to go to Mexico for tourism, to try the food there, you should learn the Mexican dialect. (Obviously, I am simplifying the issue, because even within Mexico or Spain, there are dozens are different dialects as well)
