Japanese grammar, each verbs may have six different ways to conjugate. For example: 話す, its stems is す
(1) 話さない (2) 話します、 話 しません、 話しま しよう、話しましだ (3)。。。(4)。。。(5) 話せます、話せません (6)。。。
聞く, it's stems is く
(1) 聞か ない (2) 聞きます、聞きません、聞きましよう 、聞きましだ (3)。。。(4)。。。(5) 聞 けます、聞 けません (6)。。。
You question for the grammar, it looks like to conjugate the verb form the rule in the first and the fifth.
