In these sentences, should I use “more a” or “more OF a”?
“I feel more (of) a scientific advancement than a human being”
“He was more (of) a bystander than a participant”

I agree with Isaac, more of is better to convey meaning and emphasise. It makes the intonation and rhythm of the sentence better, too.

Both are correct but "more a" is colloquial.
