Meaning of... We stood in the hallway. People streamed by. We tried to move to a corner where we would not be overheard. What's the meaning of "People streamed by"? I can't get it.

"Streamed" is a very commonly used verbal metaphor. It means that so many people passed by, at such a quick pace, that it was as if the people were a stream of water.
